ECA Semester 2 – Attendance Reminder
Success with academic and social learning requires regular attendance at school. This school calendar link allows parents to plan so as to ensure that students attend school regularly. Students need to be in school unless an illness or other emergency prevents their attendance. Parents should plan vacations and medical / dental visits carefully so that students do not miss school.
Any extended student absences must be requested/discussed and communicated in writing with the school Principals beforehand. The Principals will determine if an absence is considered excused or unexcused. An excused absence is typically caused by a documented personal illness or an unavoidable emergency family situation.
Students are responsible for completing missed work or assignments within a reasonable time as determined by the Principal.
Please note that students are at risk of not passing their academic grade level if unexcused absences exceed 10% in a given school year or/and if missing work / assignments are not completed.
During Semester 2 please plan to ensure maximum student attendance and academic success. Thank you for your support with this.
Should you require any further information please contact Michelle Till (Elementary Principal) or Sean McMahon (Secondary Principal)

On Thursday ECA and Colegio Internacional Caracas (CIC) faculty will interact, share and collaborate professionally with each other – much of the day will be spent with Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) training. Many thanks to the ECA Parent Association for providing an ECA faculty and staff appreciation lunch on this day.
On Friday, 6 other international Venezuelan schools and 140 teacher participants will attend the VANAS 2022 educators’ professional development conference which is hosted and organized by ECA. 9 ECA faculty will make presentations at this conference.
Emergency, Safety and Security Protocols: Given the recent tragic death at Colegio Humboldt some parents and faculty have been asking about ECA student safety, supervision and security procedures. Here is some information which I hope you will find helpful:
- Health and Safety is everyones’ responsibility
- Here is a link to the ECA Emergency Manual.
- At ECA we actively supervise students, in and out of class, as well as continually remind students, faculty and staff about supervision and safety procedures.
- Francisco Hernandez (Director of Support Services including security), Jose Miguel Zapata (ECA Facility Director) and Franklin Valdez (CAPS – the health and safety company, who legally and professionally work with ECA to ensure safety at work protocols are observed according to Venezuelan labor law) are now carefully reviewing the ECA facility infrastructure, safety / security protocols (including parking, car drop off and pick up procedures) and will recommend any safety improvements as needed.
- The school nurses are reviewing medical and injury protocols and procedures.
- Faculty and staff are reviewing the ECA Emergency Manual and their room, corridor and workspace areas and have been asked to make health and safety recommendations to the Leadership and Administrative teams.
Once I have all of this emergency and safety review information I will be sharing this information with the ECA Human Resources Committee and Board for their review and approval. Following this approval I will then communicate, to the ECA community, any significant changes to the current ECA Emergency Procedures.
Please enjoy the upcoming extended weekend vacation with your family.

All drivers need to to drive slowly, carefully, respectfully and safely in Calle La Cinta and upon entry to the ECA Campus. Please note that drivers who do not comply with ECA security and traffic protocols or who are disrespectful will not be allowed to enter the campus. Your understanding and collaboration with ensuring a safe drop off and pick up of students is of the utmost importance.

The continued dedication, motivation and professional work of ECA faculty and staff contributed to making what was an initially challenging year ultimately a successful one. On behalf of the ECA Board of Directors and ECA Faculty and staff, I thank the ECA parent community for their sustained support during this academic year.
I wish departing community members well with their new learning destinations. I congratulate the ECA graduating class of 2022 and wish them success with learning and their lives beyond the gates of ECA. I encourage ECA graduates to keep in touch with each other and with Escuela Campo Alegre!
